High school students get a strong message from one nursing student.
Dear Bob, You are a son, a brother, a cousin, and a friend. You touch the lives of every person you greet in the morning and every family member or friend you wish good night. “You” - are a nurse.
If you have a kind heart, a gentle touch, and a strong desire to make a difference, nursing is the profession for you. Today, nurses are needed more than ever. Once you decide to become a nurse, you’ve already made a difference - you’ve guaranteed the world another nurse.
Nursing roles in society have developed tremendously since its birth as a profession. Even in its earliest years, nursing made a difference in others’ lives.
In the Crimean War, Florence Nightingale’s nurses cared for the wounded and sick as Nightingale diligently recorded statistics and presented them to the British government. With their simple, kind acts, Nightingale and her nurses transformed the British Army medical system and began a “little something” that was called nursing.
With the current shortage and predicted retirement of practicing nurses, jobs are nearly certain for all current nursing students - and more will be needed. Right now, approximately 128,000 positions are currently unfilled!
